It's that time of year again. The sun is out, the water looks divine and the choice of sunscreens is
all too much. I've picked the best (and my favourites) for you here.

I've always been one of those people who is very aware of using sunscreen. The skin on my face
is extremely sensitive so even in London I would wear SPF everyday and use it all over my body
if I was on holiday.
Living in the sun is something completely different, as I found out when I relocated to Sydney
this time last year. The fun of tanning and the heat of the sun can become nuisances rather
than pleasures, especially in the harsh Aussie sun. And therefore, applying sun protection
everyday (and throughout the day!) can seem like an extra effort that is very easily laid
However, I find that if you're using the right stuff - no stains or sticky skin here -
remembering to apply (and re apply) becomes second nature.
I've been a Skinceuticals addict ever since I first became a beauty editor and their Ultimate
UV Defense is no less than incredible. A broad spectrum, lightweight and moisturising cream
that works perfectly under make up, it's been my go to for years.
I recently came across Ultraceuticals, which is an Australian made and owned brand and so
of course the Sun Protection range has had a lot of research behind it! I love using the Daily
Shield Mineral Defense SPF 50+ under make-up, the Sheer Tint Daily Moisturiser SPF 30+
on it's own or the Sun Active SPF 50+ range at the beach, although I rarely peep out from
underneath my hat.
I grew up using Nivea and it will always have a special place in my heart. It's no-nonsense
and effective sun protection. The Light SPF30 cream is a favourite.
And on the other end of the scale, is the Ella Baché SPF50 Sportsbloc Active which feels
more like a luxury body cream than sunscreen. I like to use this one on my legs and arms
during the day if I'm out and about. Just because I'm not at the beach doesn't mean I don't
need protection! Quite the opposite. It's the times in the day when we forget to use suncare
that are most likely to cause premature ageing, age spots and cancer later in life.
The worst thing about having to slip, slop, slap all of the time? Greasy fingers, sand sticking
to you, and having re-apply as soon as you've had a swim (and all I want to do is lie down,
relax and read my book). That's why these water resistant aerosol sprays from Nivea and
Neutrogena will be staying firmly put (and topped up!) in my beach bag this summer.
