FRIDAY PHOTOGRAPHERS
I haven’t been keeping up with my Friday Photographers section, (slap on the hand) which
is silly since I spend all day researching them. Easy, really. And beautiful, too.
I came across Jen Giese this week on one of my tumblr session (it’s hard to stop
yourself once you’re on).
The last photograph of the cactus and the wall was what caught my attention, and I clicked
on the link not expecting much but to my delight the rest of Jen’s work was just as light.
Turning the ordinary into the beautiful.
I always remember ‘deciding’ I wanted to be a photographer when I was about 9 in Paris. The
family friend who’s flat we were at said ‘just photograph what you think is beautiful’, with a
smile. I then spent a good half an hour in the small Parisian toilet trying to photograph the
vintage wallpaper covering the corners of the wall. I remember my sister laughing at me, and
I can’t even remember the outcome of these shots so they can’t have been any good but I
just remember wanting to turn the ordinary, everyday things I found intriguing into a
physical photograph that would represent my view on the world. I think that’s why Jen’s work
does, it’s so simple but also very personal.

Have a look at more of her work here.
I’m also very happy that googling her name made me come across this.
