The jungle on the beach. We stayed here for our 3 last nights in Tulum, but I so wish we could have stayed longer.
You immediately feel part of a caring family at Casa de la Olas, where everyone looks out for
each other and shares tips. It might be the big communal table that means everyone talks to
each other, or it might be the friendly staff who go above and beyond, or maybe even Lulu’s
cooking in the morning.

Located at the end of Tulum beach, this hotel is lesser known than others, but for me that was
part of it’s charm. The hotel provides bikes for free so you can be back in the thick of the
Tulum beach strip in a quick 10 minutes ride. Although it’s situated on the beach (see: the
best sunrise) our room really felt like we were in the jungle, with the tops of the palm trees
peeking over our balcony.

Casa de las Olas also really focuses on sustainability and the hotel is run on solar power!
I think people often think this means the place will be lacklustre, but the rooms here were
beautiful – everything you need without overdoing it. Local tiles are used alongside
washed concrete floors and glossy wooden furniture.
