THE ALILA EXPERIENCE.

When you’ve just spent on a 19 hours on a plane, you don’t want to have to add a couple of hours drive upon landing, which is why our first port of call in Bali was Alila. Alila Seminyak is located on the shores of the Indian Ocean, just a short drive from the airport. And you get picked up from your flight and fed cookies the whole journey there, making the plane-to-hotel transition the least stressful thing you’ve ever done.

We stayed in an Ocean Suite, with a view of the beach (and three different pools for your perusal) and a great place to watch the sun set from, too – or certainly capture golden hour like we did in the photos below. With everything you need in the room (and if not, on call – you know like 2am margaritas) it’s the perfect place to begin any trip to Bali.

The Spa

After the afore mentioned journey, a massage was on my to do list. But this wasn’t just a massage, this was a three hour immersive experience which included the Signature Alila full body massage, reflexology and a floral steam room to help my lungs recover from the journey (both the lack of fresh air on the plane and chances of picking up germs from fellow passengers). To say I felt renewed after this would be an understatement.
I feel like re-setting yourself after a long journey is also really important. Taking the time to stop, slow down and fully relax at the beginning of a holiday sets you up for a great trip.

A few days later, while we were staying in Uluwatu, we made sure to watch the sunset and eat dinner at Alila Uluwatu, which is perched on top of the cliffs and pre dinner cocktails are served in the wooden birds nest, hovering above the ocean. It’s quite the experience.
