VILLA SUNGAI.
This was my favourite villa we stayed in during my first visit to Bali 4 years ago so I just knew I had to come back…
The smell of bergamot and tuberose hits you the second you descend the stairs of Villa Sungai. And it brought back so many wonderful memories of my first stay, that I was so excited to show Kate round the rooms and the incredible interiors, not to mention the pool that snakes around the whole outside area.
It was rainy season in Bali during our trip (January, but this shouldn’t deter a visit at this time of year, it’s less crowded) but of course our two days spent here were perfect sunshine to laze around the pool reading books and feeling extremely zen. Staying here is like entering your own sort of time-out space with everything you could possibly need (including my heaven: a bath of rose petals).
The villa houses three bedrooms, a large open plan dining-come-lounge area, a poolside bar and even your own personal spa room, which we both decided would be rude not to have a massage in. The massages are traditional Balinese which are soft but still get all the knots out. Outdoor showers and baths for every room, with perhaps the comfiest beds I have ever slept in. Each detail is so perfectly executed, it was a dream to shoot.
I know I’m going to be coming back again, next time with 5 friends to fill each bed.
