GOOD GENES.
The much anticipated, reformulated Good Genes has launched, and I’m here to tell you all about it.
Due to EU laws on lactic acid, Sunday Riley had to remove the original from the shelves in the UK – but being Sunday, she didn’t want to accept that us Brits couldn’t use one of her most cult products – so she decided to specially reformulate the product, just for us.
It wasn’t a rushed replacement, because Sunday Riley wanted to get it just right for those Good Genes devotees and didn’t want any of the efficacy that we know and love from the original to be lost.
The reformulated Good Genes is a Glycolic Acid Treatment. Glycolic acid is in fact a smaller molecule than lactic and therefore can penetrate the skin at a deeper level, for optimum exfoliation. The way it works is by dissolving the ‘glue’ that holds dead skin cells together (aka pore clogging debris), and with nothing to hold them together, they are removed from the skin. Now that the new skin cells below are revealed – you will have immediately bright, smooth skin.
It works on all skin types – even sensitive – as it also includes the ingredient Nopalex, which is a prickly pear extract that reduces the skin’s neurosensory response to any inflammation or redness. I’ve got sensitive skin and I’ve been using the product for over a month now and am reaping the benefits of perfectly exfoliated skin: minimised fine lines, less congested skin and a more even skin tone.
Other ingredients of note (for all my fellow skincare geeks) are Potassium Lactate – a lactic acid salt that boost skin Natural Moisturizing Factor for incredible hydration – and Lemongrass extract to brighten the skin.
Whether you’re a longterm Good Genes fan or wanting to give acid a go for the first time, I can’t recommend this product enough. Proper exfoliating is key to any effective skincare routine and this makes it so easy and gentle on this skin. You can buy the product here.
